8th Media Arts: Nature Quote Designs
Steps
- Pick a nature/spring quote. Find one that is meaningful to you, not too long, and you must include the author. Search on your own, or use these links:
- Take a photograph for the background
- We will try lots of different kinds of shots- First look up each shot here
- Ms. Fowler will demonstrate some
- Shoot pictures. You will choose one of your photos to use as the background to your quote.
- Design in Photoshop
- Use effects, color adjustments and filters
- Add your text. You may want to download a custom font. You can find some free fonts here. Or any of the other "Free font" links on the right-hand side.
- When we are finished we will save as "YourLastName Quote.psd" to the HAND IN WORK folder, and save it in your own folder.
- Write an artist statement

8th Self-Portrait Photography
1. Complete the photography worksheets using these two links:
2. Check out cameras. Follow Ms. Fowler's directions on setting up your camera
3. Take 20 to 30 pictures that show who you are. Try close-ups, blurry or out of focus shots, different expressions, disguises, etc. You are trying to show the real you. Delete the pictures you don't like.
4. Import pictures to your computer

5. Create a collage designs of your photos using Photoshop. You can cut your pictures up, add words, repeat things, change the color, etc. The size should be "U.S. Paper" or 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall. 300ppi.
6. Save your collage to the HAND IN FINAL WORK folder as "YourLastNameCollage".

- Click on the lunch tray picture, then when the large version loads, right click and save to your desktop
- Open it in Photoshop
- Find pictures of your favorite foods. Go to morguefile.com for copyright-free photos. If you need something specific you can use Google (for this project only!) Click on "large" size so your pictures aren't blurry)
- Open your pictures in Photoshop and Cut and paste your foods on to your lunch tray. Your teacher will demonstrate.
- You must include a minimum of 5 foods and a beverage, but you can load up your tray! You could also try something on a theme (like, what if you went through the lunch line and you got a tray full of money, gold and diamonds? Or really gross stuff?)
- Save to the "HAND IN WORK" folder as "YourLastName Lunch.psd"
- Have fun!
Extra Credit: Design a Healthy Lunch. Include a food from each category: Dairy, Grains or starches, Meat or beans, Vegetables, Fruits.

1. Go to Google Maps and look through this list of major cities of the world. Pick a city from a foreign country.
2. Use Google image search and save a map of your country, showing your city
3. Look up the weather for your chosen city. Google your city and "average weather" or try World Climate
4. Look up your city's history

Wall Wisher Assignment
Directions
1. First. you will need to be logged on to your Google account.- Go to heights.apps.isd13.org
- Use the same log in as your computer log in
2. Then go to http://wallwisher.com/
3. Click on "Build A Wall"
4. Title it with your name
5. Add your question in the description. Make your question something creative. For example: "If you discovered a planet, what would you name it?" or "If you could travel to any city in the world, where would you go?" or "If you had to eat one thing everyday, what would it be?"
6. Click on "wallpaper" and choose a background
7. Click on privacy and change the settings to "anyone", if you need too.
8. Click on "address" and select and copy the address
9. Now go to cagallery.blogspot.com
10. Find the post that says "wall wishers assignment" (first one)
11. Go to the bottom and "add a comment"
12. Paste your wall's address
13. Ask at least 10 people to visit your wall and answer your question

8th Media Arts: Movie Soundtrack
For this project we will be composing music to go with copyright-free video footage, using the software program "GarageBand". These will be shown at our Arts and Engineering Comic Con, as well as online.
Research
1. First, let's talk about what a comic convention is like. Video. Experience Comic Con.
2. Choose a found video to compose music for. I have downloaded some old cartoons that are now public domain. Find a video in the Fowler Classroom > Materials folder. Shorten it to about 2 minutes (find a good stopping point). It must be 1:30 minutes or longer.
